How to combat hair loss with PRP Treatments

How to combat hair loss with PRP Treatments

On September 1st, my husband got his first PRP treatment with Dr. Rapaport.

What is PRP therapy?

PRP known as platelet rich plasma is obtained from your own blood, which is drawn and placed in a centrifuge where the plasma is separated from the white and red cells. The platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the areas where treatment is needed.  For years, PRP therapy has been considered safe and effective without having the risk of allergic side effects. PRP is used across many medical specialities, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, and cosmetic surgery.

The most devastating thing to happen I believe is hair loss. As a African American child, I grew up getting my hair braided. At first you don’t realize the damage done to your hair I didn’t until my first bad spot at the tender age of 25. My husband’s hair was also receding in the front and in the middle of his head. His hair was receding so bad that he was ready to shave it all off.

Then I got the opportunity to try PRP treatments with Dr.Rapaport and I said my husband could benefit from these sessions.

Procedure

My husband entered the clinic with Dr. Rapaport in New Jersey. They drew a large portion of blood then put it into a machine that separates the blood from the platelets which took about 20 minutes. They then took the platelets and put them into the needle for injection.

They injected the needles into the receding parts of his hair. My husband said there was a lot of blood. At first, it was a pinching sensation but after about 15 injections the pain lessens because they also numb the area.

After the procedure, my husband said your head feels sore not to the touch but with facial movements like frowning. He was given a topical solution for alopecia.

The treatment was a success you will start to see results after 3 month with regular treatments.

According to Dr. Rapaport Approximately 60% increase in size of hair shaft creating thicker hair
Approximately 90% people see a decrease in shedding

Consider PRP for hair loss to help you on your hair back journey.

After the treatments it is best to continue a healthy hair regimen here are 4 ways to naturally grow back your hair

  1. Essential Oils- Essential oils are a great way to grow your hair back. Some of the essential oils that I use are Rosemary and Peppermint, I add it to my hair regiment as a oil for my scalp mixed with carrier oil like Jojoba or coconut oil.
  2. Tension free protective styles- Over the years, I put alot of tension on my hair through braiding. My hair was gone on the front of my head by the age of 25 but with proper care I grew my hair back once I stopped putting tension on my edges.
  3. Massage your scalp- Massaging your scalp daily stimulates your blood flow to your scalp thus promoting hair growth
  4. Pray- If God created the hair on your head why wouldn’t he care if your hair is falling out? Pray that God helps to grow your hair back even if you have to fast.
