    BBQ Fun With ShopRite

Thanks to ShopRite for giving me these products in exchange for my honest opinion.

While summer is over Labor Day is here there is still sometime to have weekend fun in the backyard. I partnered with ShopRite to show you how I use their BBQ marinade sauce to grill up some chicken. They have three marinades by their brand called Wholesome Pantry and I grilled some chicken.

    Marinades

    Wholesome Pantry Organic Teriyaki Marinade
Water, Cane Sugar, Soy Sauce, Sea Salt, Red Wine, Pineapple Juice, Garlic Powder, Corn Starch, Spice, Citric Acid

Wholesome Pantry Organic Herb and Garlic Marinade
Water, Distilled Vinegar, Cane Sugar, Sea Salt, Dried Garlic, Lemon Juice, Spices, Dried Red Bell Peppers, Xanthan Gum, Natural Flavor, Organic

What I love about this marinade is that it is not loaded with chemicals but I always say you want to eat what you can pronounce. ShopRite’s Wholesome Pantry is free from artificial flavors, colors and preservatives .This marinade is great for a party, or for your dinner. The taste is not too overpowering or too salty it has just the right amount of seasoning to it.

    Grilled Chicken with Teriyaki Marinade

The Best Eats on Your Texas Travels

Texas covers a vast area populated with a huge array of eating options that many think is more exceptional than it has been for years. Texans are not frightened to try cuisine from different parts of the world and now the eateries include ones serving dishes from India, Vietnam, Italy, China, and France among many others. Of course, you will still find more traditional Texan menus, but the choice is now wider than ever, which is why so many people tour Texas with food on their minds.

If you’re planning a Texan  trip here are the eateries you absolutely must stop by…

    Contigo, Austin

The food at Contigo is Texan through and through, which means it should definitely be on your travel list. The menu is full of modern bar food such as crispy green beans, rabbit and dumplings and fruit and vegetables grown in Texas. Most people choose to eat outside on an expansive patio, where they also serve cocktails to go with your meal.

    Fearing’s, Dallas

It is said that Dean Fearing has played a role in shaping the culinary identity of Dallas.  His very smart but casual restaurant lets you feast on such delights as Granny’s fried chicken, fork-tender beef short ribs that have been braised in Dr Pepper and the smoky, creamy tortilla soup is iconic.

Debbie’s Restaurant And Pie Shop, San Marcos

For a huge choice of meals from corned beef hash to grilled pork chops, and such delights as buttermilk pancakes or an NY steak, Debbie’s Restaurant and Pie Shop is the place to go. A great place for traditional American meals and a very friendly service make this a must try when you are in the area.

    Himalaya, Houston

Here you will find a choice of nearly 100 dishes made in the authentic way of Pakistan. The chef and owner, together with his wife, serve many regional dishes. Cooking in Pakistan involves a lot of beef, so they have ‘friendly fusion’ weekend specials to bridge the culture gap with Pakistan and American cuisine.

    Garcia’s Mexican Food, San Antonio

One thing that will become very apparent is that this restaurant serves large portions of its delightful authentic Mexican food. The same family has run it since 1962 and the original traditional meals are still part of their menu. Things like the Deluxe Mexican Dinner Plate includes so many different foods that you will not need a starter or a dessert, it will be more than enough to fill an empty stomach.

    Perini Ranch Steakhouse, Buffalo Gap

35 years ago, cattle rancher and cook, Tom Perini, turned a barn into what has become one of the most popular destinations in Texas for steak. This is steak of all kinds cooked at its best and the restaurant has become so well known it can boast famous politician and celebrities among its clientele.  With more than on award to their name, Tom and his wife Lisa, treat every customer the same, as though they are sitting in the kitchen of their own home.

Of course, there are many hundreds of other wonderful restaurants in Texas, and which you prefer is down to personal choice. The one thing you can be certain of though, is that Texas has no shortage of good food at very reasonable prices.

Empanology: A Great Place To Eat

Empanology: A Great Place To Eat

The Bronx is rising and we are seeing more small businesses. While I like major food chains like Cheesecake Factory, Hard Rock Cafe, BBQ’s, and Olive Garden, there is something unique about restaurants that are run with an entrepreneurial spirit. You find these unique restaurants like Harlem Shake, Red Rooster in Harlem and you have Sweet Chicks in Brooklyn but what about the Bronx? Bronx is the birthplace of Hip-Hop what do they have to offer?

Harlem, Brooklyn, Manhattan have restaurants owned by entrepreneurs that add a personal touch that big food chains don’t have.

    Guess what?

I recently got the chance to stop at a new hotspot called Empanology. The name alone makes you curious. With a bit of Puerto Rican island feel mixed with modern contemporary gives you the villages vibes with brick walls.

I grew up around Puerto Ricans all my life playing on the block, learning spanish eating Arroz con pollo and I loved empanadas.

    What makes Empanology unique:

    • They have a truck stand on the inside.
    • The decor is great with a contemporary vide with brick walls
    • Chalkboard menu
    • Great outside venue including string lights and board games outside
    • Variety of empanadas like Red Velvet and Vegan options

They had celebrities like Mos Def come by and they have hosted a series of other summer events. We are waiting for Jenny from the block to come through (hint, hint)

This is a great spot for couples, family gatherings and just hanging out with your friends.

    About the owner

Jason Alicea developed his passion for food at an early age. Jason’s early exposure to food’s ability to bring people together. Their goal is to make empanadas a household name replacing Taco Tuesday in your family’s weekly line up.
