    Stay in your season

    So its 2013 and I don’t have a job me and my husband agreed that I would stay home and take care of our son. I was alright with that but now child #2 is on her way and that was not the plan but anyhow my husband wants me to stay at home with her as well. This is when I say enough is enough I started job hunting and would you believe there wasn’t one job I didn’t get but there was always a problem with scheduling or job requirements I stared getting frustrated and that frustration turned into thinking that God was not on my side. My husband saw my frustration and always say that things are happening the way they are suppose to happen then I came across a devotion called Horizontal versus Vertical. This devotion talked about making a move before God tells you to move and the implications. God is saying don’t move but wait on me and I now re-evaluate my thinking I consider myself very independent but God is saying STOP taking matters into your own hands see what I have for you instead. So the next time you encounter a lot of opposition ask God is this the way I should go?

    Have you put all your dependence on God?

    Horizontal Versus Vertical
    TGIF Today God Is First Volume 1, by Os Hillman
    01-25-2013

    Glancing this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. – Exodus 2:12
    Moses saw the pain of his people. He saw the bondage and the injustice. His heart was enraged, and he decided he would do something. He would take matters into his own hands. The result was murder. The motive was right, but the action was wrong. He went horizontal instead of vertical with God. Moses fled to the desert, where God prepared the man who would ultimately be the deliverer of a nation. But it took 40 years of preparation before God determined Moses was ready. He was a professional businessman – a sheepherder. It was during the mundane activity of work that God called on him to be a deliverer.
    Moses was like a lot of enthusiastic Christian workplace believers who seek to solve a spiritual problem with a fleshly answer. The greatest danger to the Christian workplace believer is his greatest strength – his business acumen and expertise to get things done. This self-reliance can become our greatest weakness when it comes to moving in the spiritual realm. We’re taught to be problem solvers. But, like Moses, if our enthusiasm and passion are not harnessed by the power of the Holy Spirit, we will fail miserably. Peter had to learn this lesson too. His enthusiasm got him into a lot of trouble. But God was patient, just as He is patient with each of us. Sometimes He must put us in the desert for a time in order to season us so that Christ is allowed to reign supreme in the process.
    Before you act, pray and seek the mind of Christ until you know it is God behind the action. Check it out with others. You may save yourself a trip to the desert.

    Psalm 86

    A prayer of David.

    Hear me, Lord, and answer me,
        for I am poor and needy.
    Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
        save your servant who trusts in you.
    You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord,
        for I call to you all day long.
    Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
        for I put my trust in you.
    You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
        abounding in love to all who call to you.
    Hear my prayer, Lord;
        listen to my cry for mercy.
    When I am in distress, I call to you,
        because you answer me.
    Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
        no deeds can compare with yours.
    All the nations you have made
        will come and worship before you, Lord;
        they will bring glory to your name.
    10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
        you alone are God.
    11 Teach me your way, Lord,
        that I may rely on your faithfulness;
    give me an undivided heart,
        that I may fear your name.
    12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
        I will glorify your name forever.
    13 For great is your love toward me;
        you have delivered me from the depths,
        from the realm of the dead.
    14 Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God;
        ruthless people are trying to kill me—
        they have no regard for you.
    15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and graciousGod,
        slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
    16 Turn to me and have mercy on me;
        show your strength in behalf of your servant;
    save me, because I serve you
        just as my mother did.
    17 Give me a sign of your goodness,
        that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
        for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

    Who is your association?

    When you think of the word association what comes to your mind? The dictionary describes association as a group of people organized for a joint purpose.

    Matthew 7:16 says by their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles?

    Who is your association?

    When I was in high school I use to hand with what I thought were good friends one of them was a prostitute. I hung with her not thinking anything of this kind of friendship and how it could harm me. Then one day I was approached by a guy who asked me what my rate was I said what are your talking about and he said aren’t you friends with that girl I said yes but that is not what I do he was very surprised and asked me why do I hang with her. It wasn’t until then I understood what my grandmother was telling me when she said I should not be her best friend.

    After I got baptized people started asking me if I went to church instead or I see God in your life.

    John 15:1-8 says,

    I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

    “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

    In order to bear fruit of Jesus you have to abide with him. This does not mean you do not talk to these people for your mission is to tell them about Christ and do not look down upon them but should they be your best friend the answer is no. It is important to know that once we are joined in Christ our association is with God. That means because you are around Christ you act like Christ and people see Christ in you. You know you can be around someone so long you look alike our goal is to be around Jesus so much that we look alike.

    When your association is with God all things are possible when your association is with man everything becomes impossible for example, you say I can’t get over this situation so why try? I can’t win, that can’t possibly happen, its no use, and I am hopeless.

    Something to think about

    What kind of fruit are you bearing?

    What must God do to get your attention?

     Have you ever felt lost? Empty like something is missing? This week that was the feeling that I had and no matter what I did that feeling just would not go away. I did things to avoid feeling empty. I went shopping I took my son out for walks I went out on a date night with my husband but nothing I did took the feeling away and finally I went to the source as I prayed one night I asked God why do I feel empty inside? What was this void?

    As I went to sleep, I had a dream and in that dream I was at work and I started asking my co-workers if they ever met the boss and in my dream I said well that’s strange how can we work for a company and not meet the boss? (What an on-time dream). God was saying you are doing work in the ministry but do you know me. I ready my Bible but I have not studied the word in a while so I have re-dedicated my time to not just reading but studying the word.

    Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

    What about you? Have you ever felt a void? When you feel like this find out what God may have in store for you or God may use another way to get your attention. God knows how to talk to you. He is the great Shepard looking for any child of his who is lost or wandering.
