Let’s Make NYS Tobacco Free #Seen Enough Tobacco

This post was sponsored by Tobacco Free New York State as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. All opinions expressed in my post are my own.

As a child growing up, I wasn’t always health conscious but they say as you get older you get wiser. I don’t let my kids take on the bad eating habits I has as a kid. Even in the supermarkets they know how to look for organic foods. I strive to make sure my children live healthy lives. One thing marketers try to do is sell your children’s things through advertising. I educate my children on what ads mean and why that should not follow or purchase what the ad is saying.

Did you know that kids as young as 13 smoke cigarettes?

Growing up I had friends who smoked cigarettes one particular friend she was 14 years old. You could tell that the Nicotine was starting to deteriorate her body she started to look years older by the time she was 16 she looked in her twenties.

There were people in my life who died from smoking cigarettes one was my cousin and the other was my grandfather. My grandfather took the place of my absentee father he taught me how to cook, save money, play poker, take me on fishing trips and it broke my heart when he developed throat cancer.

It’s important to reduce smoking among youth because they will grow up to be unhealthy adults. By removing tobacco ads it will provide less exposure to cigarettes. I am excited to have partnered with “Seen Enough Tobacco” campaign to protect kids from being exposed to tobacco products. As a parent you don’t want your child exposed to everything and you should have that right.

Tobacco companies spend billions of dollars to put their products in front of our kids making them more susceptible to using tobacco.

    Take Action

Tobacco Free NYC gives us some useful tip to talk to your youth about tobacco:

1.Direct conversation. It is important to have a dialogue about tobacco usage with your children at age 5 or 6 – and continue the conversation into their teens. Use time in the car, at the dinner table or even draw attention to no-smoking signs in public places to reinforce disapproval.Emphasize consequences. Tell kids how smoking can cause fatal diseases (cancer, heart disease, lung disease, emphysema and more) and have immediate effects like bad-smelling hair/clothing/breath and proneness to acne. You can also point out that smoking can negatively impact sports performance and athletic endurance.

2.Be the example. Set a smoke-free policy at home and for friends/family around your children. If you are currently a smoker, try to never light up near your children, and explain to them that it was a mistake to start and how difficult it is to quit.

3.Discuss responses to friends. As kids grow up, the pressure from friends at school may increase. Equip them with appropriate responses, should they find themselves in a situation where they are offered tobacco. For example:

    1. “I don’t want my clothes to stink like smoke.”
    2. “I’m trying to stay in shape for soccer.”
    3. “I heard those make you sick.”
4.Explain different forms of tobacco and smoking. Be sure to discuss that the many different types of “smoke-free” alternatives are all still dangerous. Electronic cigarettes (vaping, electric hookahs) still use nicotine and other chemicals that are harmful to health, and smokeless tobacco (“chew”) contains nearly 30 cancer-causing chemicals and is highly addictive.

Let’s take a stand by signing the “Seen Enough Tobacco” pledge TODAY to make New York and healthier place to live, work and play.

What Makes Crystal Springs Resort The Best Staycation?

I received a complimentary stay at Crystal Spring Resorts in exchange for my honest opinion.

For spring break with the kids we got the opportunity to visit Crystal Springs Resort the Grand Cascades. I have one word to describe it.

We drove to Crystal Springs With the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander.

The first thing you notice is that even though it’s in New Jersey you go up into the mountains and you feel like you are so much further away. The view is spectacular I can’t imagine the beauty once summer arrives.

We stayed at the Grand Cascades which is one of the two resorts the other one is called Minerals Resorts. The rooms are just that GRAND there is a fireplace, large balcony, great scenic views, washer and dryer, full size granite top counter kitchen with a rustic cozy mountain feel.

All of the body wash products are from L’Occitaine

    Places To Eat

    Breakfast at Kites Restaurant

    Lunch at Latour Restaurant

You can’t go anywhere without eating and Crystal Springs make sure you do just that with over 6 restaurants to chose from. During winter months, there is a restriction due to some restaurants only being outside but if you stay at Grand Cascades you get fine dining at LaTour and for a less expensive option we went to Kites restaurant located at Minerals Resorts.

    Getting Around

There are shuttle buses that take you from one resort to the next and they run every 15 minutes we didn’t get to use the shuttle because we wanted to go other places. There is also a waterpark near by where you can swim in the summer and snow tubing and ski in the winter.

    Things To Do

On top of the huge pool areas and outdoor swimming (which was fun) there are spas, basketball courts, tennis courts, golf, wine tours, exercise classes, marshmallows roasting, and much more (some activities are limited in the winter months)

Our first time swimming outside in the winter

    Final Verdict

Crystal Springs Resort has everything you would look for in a resort for a vacation for all my of NYC readers you may be close to home but you feel far away.

    • Olive Oil comes from the fruit (known as a drupe) of the plant European olive. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made by pressing without heat or chemicals. It represents the freshest and purest olive oil available.
    • Extra Virgin Olive Oil is virtually free of acidity- below 0.8%. This is to assure its quality rathe than its taste, because overly processed and rancid oils contain higher levels of oleic acid.
    • Olive oils are also tested for peroxide values. Lower values indicate fresher oil and more rapid processing, and are required fr Extra Virgin designation. Each oil is judged by expert tasters, who must agree that it meets the high flavor standards of an Extra Virgin rating.

    Paul, Apostle of Christ Film

2018 has been the year of great films and I’m excited about another film Paul, Apostle of Christ.

Paul, Apostle of Christ is the story of two men Luke, as a friends and his physician risks his life when he ventures into the city of Rome to visit Paul, who is help captive in Nero’s darkest bleakest prison cell. But Nero is determined to rid Rome of Christians and does not flinch from executing them in the grisliest ways possible. Before Paul’s death sentence can be enacted, Luke resolves to write another book, one that details the beginnings of “The Way” and the birth of what will come to be known as the church.

Great pains were taken to maintain biblical accuracy. Using scripture as the only reference director Andrew Hyatt recreated the story of Paul on film including the close relationship with Luke, whom at the end of Paul’s life at his own peril, traveled in and out of prison carrying Paul’s writings to the community of believers. The film will be available in theaters March 23.
