Minor Medical Emergencies And What You Should Do

As a parent, your first priority to your children is to keep them safe. But despite your best efforts, accidents can happen. So it’s a good idea to be prepared so that you can act calmly and swiftly in an emergency situation. It is also a good idea to have the basic knowledge of first aid. You never know what circumstance you could find yourself in, so it is better to understand a variety of sectors. Doing a search into something like London Coast2Coast, you’ll be well on your way to becoming first aid trained. This will benefit you very much and you could be the one that helps save someone’s life.

Keep A Stocked First Aid Kit

We work hard to protect our family’s health and adopt many preventative measures. But few of us have a first aid kit. We may have a few plasters lying around in the kitchen drawer, and we we have bandages somewhere. When an accident happens, you won’t have time to run around seeking these items out. So invest in a family first aid kit and ensure it is well-stocked. Items that should be included are:

    • Plasters in several sizes
    • Sterile gauze
    • Sterile eye dressings
    • Rolled bandages
    • Safety pins to fasten bandages
    • Scissors
    • Disposable plastic gloves
    • Tweezers
    • Sticky tape
    • Antiseptic cream
    • Cream for insect bites
    • Eye wash and bath
    • Painkillers for adults and children
    • Antihistamine tablets
    • Digital thermometer

    Cuts And Scrapes

The most common injuries are cuts and scrapes. These often occur to the knees or elbows and can be treated at home. For more serious injuries and large or deep cuts, go to the emergency room.

With most wounds, the first step is to stop the bleeding. Hold a clean, dry cloth over the wound and apply a little pressure. A bandage or clean towel is ideal. Hold in place for a few minutes. If the cut is on the hand or arm, raise it above their head to help slow the flow of blood.

When the cut or scrape has stopped bleeding, the next step is to clean it thoroughly. Make sure your own hands are clean so you don’t transfer bacteria. Gently clean the area with lukewarm drinking-quality water. Gently dry with a clean towel. Apply a sterile plaster.

    Insect Bites And Stings

Insect bites and stings are pretty common and tend to cause only minor irritations. However, on occasion, they can lead to more serious allergic reactions. If your child is finding it difficult to breath or has dizziness, nausea or diarrhoea, always dial 911. Similarly, if they have a fast heart rate, difficulty swallowing or confusion.

Most bites and stings can be treated by washing the affected area with clean water and applying a cold compress. This is just a clean cloth soaked in cold water. The itching caused by many insect bites can be eased with over-the-counter ointment.

    Dental Emergencies

For the majority of dental emergencies, you should make an emergency appointment with your dentist. Discover East Indy Dental Care and other dentists online. They will provide this service even if you’re visiting from out of town. If a tooth has been knocked out or broken, keep all the pieces. If possible, insert the tooth back into the socket. This will help preserve it. If this can’t be done, place it in a cup of milk and take to the dentist immediately.
Fortunately, most medical emergencies are minor and a part of growing up. Bumps, scrapes, and bruises can be dealt with at home. For anything more serious, or if you’re unsure, always seek medical advice.

Date Night on the Holiday Jazz Cruise

Unknown1This was my first time going out since the car accident which took place September 11. I got the opportunity through U.S.Family Guide to go to the Holiday Jazz Cruise. The cruise takes place in Chelsea Piers and we had a splendid time. When you first look at the boat you say whoa its small it reminds you of a tugboat in the giant sea. My husband’s response when he saw the boat was “we getting on that”! But when you get on the boat you notice the difference. You are surrounded by windows and the most sparkly floors and tables.

We rode around for 1.5 hours traveling to see the Statue of Liberty and then down to the Brooklyn Bridge and then back to Chelsea Piers. It was a relaxing time. Word of advice make sure you dress warm because tourists will open the windows to take pictures making the inside cold. Also we grabbed a bite to eat because you are also only fed cookies and crackers so keep that in mind. As parents we don’t get breaks often but when you do make sure its a good one.

If you are looking for a nice Holiday boat ride I invite you to buy tickets here

What will you be doing next year for the holidays?
