About a month ago I went to buy some foundation from Lord and Taylor’s. Just when you think that your skin is looking alright the person who does your make-up gives you a reality check. I didn’t know my skin had two tones to it and I had sun spots! WHAT! SUN SPOTS! BLACK PEOPLE DON’T GET THAT! Surprise! Yes they do.
When exposed to the sun, our bodies actually produce more melanin and our skin darkens or what we typically call ‘getting a tan’.Although we may not sunburn as quickly, anyone regardless of skin color can sunburn. Anyone.Multiple sunburns over a lifetime increase your risk for skin damage such as dark marks and uneven skin tone. Over the years I thought about all the times I went in the sun without sun protection. I used to work at a day camp as a camp counselor in my high school years and it was nothing but sun and everyday for the whole summer I did not use any sunscreen so there you have it.
And yes if you child is 6 months or older and exposed to the sun it is best to put sunscreen on their skin.
Do you have a specific sunscreen that you would recommend? I would love to hear about it.
