Psalm 37:7 says, Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
What is the meaning of rest? The dictionary tells us it means to cease work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself or recover strength. In a spiritual sense rest is peace and security that comes from knowing Christ. Rest is freedom from anxiety or disturbance. Rest means not being affected by hassles.
How can I rest when things just seem so unfair? Have you ever been envious of someone that got something that you wanted and someone who was not been serving the Lord got it? Bringing that in my generation is like seeing a R&B singer get money and fame and we know they don’t serve the Lord. Some people even get angry with God and say God I serve you how come May and Susan are doing better and they don’t worship you like I do?
God didn’t say because you are a Christian you are exempt from the cares of life but he did promise you peace in your storm.
Psalm 37:7 is telling us to rest in him. When you are resting you are in a state where you are not worrying or fretting over the things of or in this world. God is telling us to do two things.
1.Rest
2.Be patient
God is saying that even though there are people cheating, lying and stealing we as children of God rest in him. Submit your plans to him be patient because God will reward you in time.
Don’t let their sin cause you to sin be being angry and jealous saying why do they have to get that God what about me? You are only hurting on your own salvation with God.
God gives peace that passeth all understanding that means no matter what evil is going on around me I will not break or bend but I will stand firm in Christ knowing that he is the author and finisher of my faith.
God knows our nature he knows that we can grow angry and anxious over things we cannot control he desires us to be at peace and at rest. And lastly I leave you with this:
