Mandisa “Out of the Dark” Album Review & Giveaway

Mandisa is back! In her long anticipated album she tackles something very dear to me depression. Her best friends died of cancer causing her to go into depression. Her album opens up with phone calls of people checking in on her. That reminds me of myself when I battled depression and stayed away from people. When my mother died I battled depression in my teenage years. In her candid album, “Out of The Dark” she is honest with her depression and how God helped her through it.

I truly feel this album came out at a great time as this is Mental Health Awareness Month. Sometimes we think that Christians don’t suffer from depression, suicide, low self-esteem but we do. God cares about your mental state and he wants you to be well and whole.

As I listen to her album I see it as a therapeutic journal. I am then reminded of the Psalms and how they express inner thoughts and feeling but we read everyday to help us throughout the day. My favorite songs are Shame Off, The One he Speaks Through, and Dear John Report.

Mandisa “Out of the Dark” Album is testament that we all go through pain but God doesn’t want us to stay in our pain and afflictions for God says,

“The young women will dance for joy, and the men old and young will join in the celebration. I will turn their mourning into joy I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing” Jeremiah 31:13

While she is singing through her pain she reminds us that through our pain God loves us and wants us to be overcomers. Thank you for helping us see we can get “Out Of The Dark”.
