With summer well upon us, many of us will be taking a journey here or there. How exciting! We’ll be throwing off the boring routine and going on an adventure, and whether we’re traveling domestically or internationally, we’re sure to have a good time. However, while traveling is undoubtedly fun, it also leaves our health open to attack. So to ensure your trip isn’t rudely interrupted by deteriorating health, we’ve put together five tips to ensure your health is kept in check!

Sun Safety
Even if it’s usually sunny where you live, it’s important that you stay on top of your safety when out and about in the sunshine, for one simple reason: we usually spend much more time in the sun when we’re traveling compared to when we’re at home. In particular, it’s important that you drink plenty of water, wear enough sunscreen throughout the day, and avoid spending time directly in the sunshine when it’s the hottest part of the day. If you’re traveling with children, it’s extra important that you make sure they’re safe when in the sun.
When Travelling
It’s not only when you’re in a new destination that you need to keep one eye on your health. The actual traveling process can be troublesome, too. If you’re going on a long flight, make sure you’re wearing medical compression stockings; they’ll help keep DVT and other blood issues at bay. Also when you’re on a plane, carry some disinfectant gel with you. Planes aren’t cleaned quite as vigorously as you’d like to think! If you’re traveling by car, then make sure you’re taking plenty of breaks, as tiredness can creep up on drivers without their realizing.
Beware of Jet Lag
If you’re crossing time zones, then you’ll need to take preventative measures to reduce the symptoms of jet lag. You can do this by making sure you’re well rested before you fly, and then also trying to get some shut-eye when you’re on the flight. When you land, take it easy for the first day of your vacation, especially if you’re going to be doing some intense activity when you’re there. It might not sound all that fun, but on the plus side: you’ve got the perfect excuse to just lie by the pool/on the beach.
Everything In Moderation
It’s all too exciting when we visit a new destination. We want to take everything in, do everything, never miss a thing! But alas, we’re not superhuman, and we don’t do everything at all times. It’s all about fun in moderation. Stay sensible and get to bed at a reasonable hour: it’ll make your waking hours all the more fun.
Healthy Immune System
When you’re away, keep on top of your immune system. If you take daily vitamins at home, take them when you travel to. You might be tempted to eat every indulgent thing you see when you’re in a new destination, but remember that fruit and vegetables don’t disappear when you’re on vacation, so make them part of your diet.
