Nearly 200 years old but not nearly as well-known as some of the other great national parks in America, Hot Springs makes for a fantastic alternative vacation spot which is all-too-often overlooked unless you find yourself and the family taking a trip to Iceland hot springs. This rare national park is totally centred on what it says in the name – hot springs and it is closely connected with the town of the same name.
So, if you are looking for a vacation that is a little off the beaten track, take a look at the Comfort Inn & Suites Hot Springs as a place to stay. And use this article as inspiration and guidance of the things that you can see and do when you get here.
Take a Bath
The city’s old architecture has been well-preserved along Bathhouse Row, and there is even one bathing spot which has been operating for over a century. With no reservations necessary, you may want to make this your first stopping point so that you can enjoy some of the luxurious spa treatments that are on offer. There are separate floors for both women and men and just a few of the things that you can enjoy include steam cabinets, needle showers, and whirlpool tubs.
Check Out the Local Art Scene
For lovers of art, Hot Springs has made a name for itself as a leading art destination in the country. The Spanish Colonial Revival building Ozark Bathhouse stopped operating as a place to bathe back in the 1970s, but it is not one of the greatest art galleries in the country. If you happen to be here on the first Friday of the month, you can check out the Gallery Walk when local artists open up studios for socialising and live music.
Head Out on the Sunset Trail
The city of Hot Springs is built right into the national park itself, so you can get out into nature without venturing very far at all. One of the most popular trails is the Sunset Trail which leads you to some mountain overlooks which face away from the city. If you are looking for a real challenge, you could complete a full 14-mile loop of the national park. If you have any energy left at all, you can climb up to the top of the Hot Springs Mountain Tower to enjoy a panoramic view of the Ouachita Mountains.
Learn About Criminal Past at the Gangster Museum of America
The brilliantly-named museum takes you back in time to the roaring twenties when Prohibition was in force and mobsters ruled the roost. Suddenly, the little town of Hot Springs turned into a centre of incredible wealth. There are plenty of old photos which transport you back in time, as well as some original slot machines and a Tommy gun.
If you are looking for somewhere a little different for your next vacation destination, look no further than Hot Springs, Arkansas. As well as beautiful landscapes, you also have a fascinating city to explore with plenty of history to take in.
