How to Deal with Physical Pain without Pain Killers

If you are finding it hard to deal with the physical pain that you are in or if you know that you have been in an accident then you will know how difficult it can be to try and get your life back on track again. After all, the pain will probably be limiting you quite a lot and you may even find that it knocks your confidence as well. If you want to get around this then knowing and understanding your pain is key.

Focus on your Sensations

The first thing that you need to focus on is the sensations that you are experiencing. For example, are you experiencing burning sensations? Throbbing? Heat? Cold? When you are able to separate the pain you can then help to control it. This is known as sensory splitting. It helps you to see what you have been thinking of as a sensation rather than a block of pain. When you are able to separate your pain in this manner, your pain will no longer be a thing and you will be much less likely to think thoughts such as “the pain will be with me forever” and things like that. As you focus on your pain you may even find that the sensations come and go as well and this is brilliant to say the least.

Turn your Attention to Another Part of your Body

It’s so important that you are able to switch your attention to another part of your body. At first you may not think that there is any such place that is pain-free but when you are able to focus, you will soon see that this is not the case. Try and relax your body and know that it is possible for you to be pain-free. If you can, you should engage the part of the body in some kind of movement as this will help you to stop focusing on the pain. This will help to engage your mind and as you probably know, the severity of the pain is usually dependent on your mindset rather than your physical symptoms. Of course, if you are injured as the result of an accident then now is a good time to hire a personal injury attorney.

When you are able to meditate, you can easily switch off your mind and you can also relax your body as well. This is great for your health and your mind. When you are able to do this, you can let go of your stress as this will probably be making your pain worse. After all, when you are stressed, your muscles will tense up and this can easily lead to more painful symptoms. When you meditate, try and light some candles or even try some aromatherapy oils as this will really help you to unwind. This is one of the best ways for you to try and control your pain and you may even find that it helps you to get a much more positive mindset as well so do keep that in mind when the time does come for you to get started.
