To the outside world Pittsburgh is known for a lot of things: a sports fan base that swarms stadiums swathed in black and yellow, an area with more than 300 steel related businesses, and a count of 446 bridges that gives it the moniker of the City of Bridges.

There’s so much more to love when you’re looking at the city from the inside. It’s no wonder the younger generation is checking out Pittsburgh houses for sale, given all the city has to offer.

There’s a Sense of Community

The Steel City is one of pride. Natives live for their sports teams, are proud of iconic former inhabitants like Mr. Rogers and Michael Keaton, and recognize the importance their city played in the building of the nation.

They are also generally pleasant and caring for their neighbors. The population is a mix of families, young professionals, and entrepreneurs.

Housing is Affordable

In 2019, Pittsburgh was ranked at the very top of lists for first-time home-buyers, one of the most reasonably-priced places for a family who earns a median income.

A single-family home costs 40 percent less than the national average.

You Can Still Enjoy the Outdoors

It may be a bustling city, but there is plenty of space to relax among greenery.

Pittsburgh has 15,000 acres of public parks and more than 13 state parks in the surrounding region. There are 400 miles of trails for biking and walking.

Job Hunts are Easy

Again, Pittsburgh made high marks, this time on a Glassdoor list that ranked the best cities for new jobs. The median base salary here is $46,5000 annually, which goes a long way in a city with a decent cost of living.

Pittsburgh also ranked high among satisfaction of employees, upward mobility in a job, and job security.

You’ve Got A Team to Root For

Sports fanatics will find a game for all seasons here. The MLB’s Pittsburgh Pirates play at PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Penguins take to the rink at PPG Paints Arena, and the Pittsburgh Steelers bring football to a frenzied level at Heinz Field.

The best part? All of these teams bleed black and yellow, so as long as you’ve got that color pairing in your wardrobe you’ll be ready for any game.

You Can Further Your Education

Those seeking to continue academically with a master’s or other degree have many options to choose from. There are more than 29 colleges in the city, chief among them Carnegie Mellon University and Duquesne.

There’s also the University of Pittsburgh, La Roche College, Robert Morris University, and Chatham University.

There’s Always Something to Do

Within the city limits are 32 museums, 30 concert venues, and 19 public libraries. There’s a plethora of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues downtown to enjoy.

Pittsburgh has an ample number of breweries to imbibe at, like Penn Brewery and East End Brewing.

Grab a bite at the famed Primanti Brothers or Pamela’s Diner, or check out one of the many new restaurants that continually pop up on the dining scene.

Kennywood Park sits just outside of the city, an amusement park that’s been open since 1899.
