Moving home doesn’t always have to be such a chore. In fact, you can make the experience as pleasurable or stressful as you want. Everyone has the power to step in and control how they feel about things. All you have to do is have the right mitigations in place. There is no need for moving home to make it into the top five most stressful things to do. To help you see that this is the case, here are a few ideas to get you thinking:
Control How You Feel
If you begin the process by thinking that it is going to be stressful, then you will find it stressful. You need to control how you view moving. Why not start out thinking that it is going to be fun, exciting, and a way to start again? If you think ‘I can’t wait to move’ and use this as a motivator, you are so much more likely to have a smooth move. Everyone has the power to control how they feel about pretty much everything. It all starts with the right self-talk. So, tell yourself that it is going to be great, and this will be what manifests.
Take Control
Not only do you need to control your thoughts, but you need to take control of the situation. Don’t wait until the last minute. Own it. What this means in practical terms is to be organized and prepare early. As soon as you know that you are moving, start the preparation. Even if this is six months in advance. The more time you have, the better, as you are going to have to do a lot of stuff. Create a moving home checklist where you list absolutely everything you need to do. So you are not going to remember everything on the first occasion, stick the list in a place where you can easily add to it as soon as you remember. One of your first actions needs to be contacting the removals firm. If you require long distance moving it is essential that you get your preferred set in stone. So call early and book. Remember to list all the companies that you deal with, such as your utilities and insurance firms too. The more exhaustive the list, the more in control you will feel. Then as you go along, you can start ticking these items off, and you will feel great about it.
The Packing
This is something to start as early as possible too. Begin with a thorough decluttering of your home. Throw away any sell everything you no longer need and will not serve you in your new life. You are going to need all the right packaging material to protect your fragile items. It may be an idea to research how best to pack the items that you have or their safety. You can get bubble wrap and paper and the right sort of thick boxes. Just ensure that you are packing things correctly and labeling the boxes.
